DOMELAND Head Trainer Nacim Dilmi has black-type aspirations for talented filly Probability Theory after her impressive victory at Hawkesbury on Saturday.
Staying at 1300m but stepping up to Benchmark 64 grade, Probability Theory recorded her second win from three career starts in a style that Dilmi said underlined his opinion the three-year-old had better things to come.
“If things go well, I’d say she’ll be a nice three-year-old filly to aim at stakes races in Queensland for the Winter Carnival,” Dilmi said.
“I think she will have the ability to compete at stakes grade. She’s still got to step up to the next level, but I don’t think that’ll be an issue with her.
“She’s a smart filly and during the winter there’s a lot of black type to pick up in fillies’ races in Queensland. If things go well, that’s where she’ll be heading.”
Sent out the $3.80 favourite after a strong Maiden win over the course and distance at her previous start, Probability Theory had the race in her control a long way from home after apprentice Mitchell Stapleford dropped her into the perfect trailing position after 300m.
Stapleford was able to ease Probability Theory around the leaders on the point of the turn and she quickly put the race away, running strongly through the line to win by a length and a half.
With her confidence high after two smart Hawkesbury wins, Dilmi said the time was right to test the promising filly in harder company.
“She’ll definitely go into a midweek race in the city now and winning her last two will give her a lot of confidence to run really well,” Dilmi said.
“On her breeding she does seems like a filly that will get better with age so what she’s doing now is just on raw ability.
“After running only okay at her first start at Scone, to putting two dominant wins together like that, it gives me a good indication that she’s better than average.
“Once she’s strengthened a bit more and really worked out what it’s all about, I think she’s going to be a very smart filly.”
A $40,000 purchase from the Kirks Bridge Farm draft at the 2024 Inglis Classic Sale, Probability Theory is a daughter of Group One winner Microphone, who Dilmi knows well from his previous role as assistant trainer at Godolphin.
“He was a smart two-year-old and he did well as a three-year-old but unfortunately he had fertility issues, so he doesn’t have many foals on the ground,” Dilmi said.
“It would be nice if she can be his best one. It’s good for me coming from Godolphin to see his progeny going well.”
The victory continued a stellar run of success for Domeland since Dilmi took over as the racing and breeding operation’s Head Trainer in August.
Probability Theory delivered Dilmi his eighth winner of the season and was also Domeland’s fourth winner from their past 12 runners.
“We’ve got a great team who look after the horses,” Dilmi said.
“They come to the races presenting really well and we’re picking the right races for them too. It’s a big team effort and I’m happy it’s going well.”
